The toilet in your home is not the most complex piece of equipment that you own. You use it, you flush it, occasionally—maybe not as frequently as you should, but occasionally—you clean it. That’s about it, right? Well, sure. Until you run into problems with your toilet. Then it becomes quite clear, quite quickly, that this whole toilet situation can be a bit more complicated than you realized. Don’t worry, we’ve got some information to share with you.

At least, there are a few fixes you can investigate before you call in the professional plumbers on our team. The moment you suspect that there is no quick fix, however, you should pick up the phone. Should I Dye Test My Toilet for Leaks?

Monday, August 22nd, 2016

It definitely won’t hurt! Dye testing your toilet for leaks is an incredibly simple and effective way in which to determine if your toilet has a leak between the tank and the bowl. That may not sound like that big of a deal, but it can lead to a lot of wasted water over the course of a single day, let alone year after year.

You may assume that the fact that you don’t have a pool of water surrounding your toilet means that you don’t have a leak. You’d be wrong in this assumption, however. You see, water can leak from the tank into the bowl, and that can cause your toilet to draw in more water than it should. Over time, you are looking at a lot of wasted money as the result of wasted water.

House Call Company Gives FREE Flappers in Honor of World Toilet Day

Tuesday, November 17th, 2015

To honor World Toilet Day, House Call Company is offering a special for one free flapper to Hampton Roads homeowners. While supplies last, the promotion will run throughout the month of November.world_toilet_day_infographic (002)

The goal of World Toilet Day is to raise awareness of the roughly 2.4 billion people in the world who don’t have access to a toilet. This year, World Toilet Day falls on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, and will focus on the link between sanitation and nutrition, drawing the world’s attention to the importance of toilets and improved health.

The United Nations wants to bring attention to the cause by encouraging people to take action and help promote the idea that more needs to be done. This is where House Call Company wanted to step in. “We believe we can improve lives by improving homes,” said Raymond Walsh, general manager of House Call Company. “Given the plumbing services we provide homeowners and the worldwide concern for sanitation, we felt like we needed to do something to help spread awareness.”

As such, the experts are running a promotion to help local homeowners reduce water waste due to leaky toilets. If residents notice that their toilet is running, House Call Company will come out and replace the flapper for free.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that toilets are by far the main source of water use in the home, accounting for nearly 30 percent of residential indoor water consumption. And roughly 10% of all American homes have water leaks that waste 90+ gallons of water per day!

“Whether it’s helping to provide access to clean water or reducing water waste here locally, we want to empower Hampton Roads residents to conserve their water and give to those in need,” added Walsh.
